Thankful Hearts...

I stood tremendously thankful today. Our Physical therapist was here to work with Joey. She started to share with me a story about a boy right here in Muncie with Mitochondrial disease. He has the PDH form of Mito, this is apparently one of the worst forms that you hope your child never has! I understand that the last enzyme in your digestion is missing. They question if Joey has that form because of the symptoms he carries. However, they have said that if he does, it is extremely mild. This form affects your development severely. She told me a bit more about this boy and I was almost in tears as I listened. He is 2 1/2 yrs. old and he has just learned to sit alone. He still is unable to roll, walk, crawl or anything a normal child can do. My heart broke for this child and his family. I know the fears that we have faced as a family and I see the progress that Joey has made and I am so thankful! It is sometimes hard as we further study mito. Doubt wants to set in knowing that in a moment you can go backwards. However, God is bigger than Mito and God knows every aspect and every plan that He has for Joey's life. I hold onto that daily! Joey had a rough day today. He was very tired and irritable. However, he got an excellent report on his physical abilities today (even though he refused to participate in therapy!) They are going to continue watching him and working with him in PT as his diagnosis puts him at a high risk of eventually going backwards, but they said that he has at a normal rate right now in development. The PT explained to us that eventually Joey's muscles will start to weaken and his need for PT would heighten, however, we are just thankful for today's report!

On the cute note...
Abby and Bubby had a kissing contest today! They were absolutely attacking each other with so much lovin'!!! Too cute. We went to target tonight and Abby was looking through the clothing racks. She was digging through the clothing racks is actually more appropriate to say! She kept pulling things out saying "Oh dis is tute!" = Oh it was funny! daddy was following her around snapping pictures with his phone. I think he is a little proud of his princess! =) Too funny! Joey has taken three steps crawling. He has decided to get revenge and take toys now from big sister! =) Whew! Gets busy around the Pfohl house!

We go to Riley pulmonary tomorrow. Both kids will be seen.
